Heavy Metal New Blood Album Review - IKILLYA Recon

IKILLYA - "Recon"
Released April 2011
Rating: 8.5/10

One of the best debut albums I have heard in a while this hardcore/groove/thrash band from New York have opened with an album that should get them far with "Recon"

The intro track "At My Signal" with it's emphasis on horns is a fairly weak start to the album but the brutality of "...And Hell Followed With Him" more than makes up for it.

"E.H.R" continues in the same vein with a great chorus sure to be a hit at IKILLYA's live gigs. "Razorblades" opens with some great guitar work leading up to some brutal vocals.

Surprisingly the horns on "Jet Fuel Genetic" work really well and lend a sense of epicness to what in my opinion should have been the closing track rather than "Echoes in Eternity" which takes away from the amazing energy that had been present since "...And Hell Followed With Him"

The stand out track for me personally, and it was hard to pick just one, would have to be "Bomb's Away". Fast paced and brutal and with great lyrics, furious guitar work and mental drumming in places. Having said that "Escape Plan" also rates pretty highly for energy, brutality and choruses destined for live gigs.
"And I hope you packed your parachute, cos I won't be here to catch you. Bombs Away!"  "Bombs Away"
While still being something a bit different, for a point of reference think growling Devil Driver style vocals and almost Lamb of God style music. All in all this is an awesome debut album and has definitely made it into my personal music collection. I urge you all to check this out as soon as possible using the links below, seriously do it now!
